Eliot Wilcox,
Raleigh Guitar Teacher

Eliot Wilcox, Guitar teacher in Raleigh NC  has been playing guitar & singing in rock bands for 40 years. Eliot’s musical journey began at the age of 13, listening to his father and sister practicing scales on the family piano. He began playing an old cheap nylon string acoustic guitar and was soon taking lessons in Greensboro at Angus McCree Music. Not long after, Eliot switched to electric guitar and began studying at Moore Music Company where he became interested in learning Music Theory and piano as well as guitar.

After high school, Eliot decided to stay in Greensboro and attended UNCG while playing guitar and writing songs for local band the Astounding Dead Beat Orchestra. After playing the 1993 New Music Seminar, Eliot received a BA in Media Studies with a minor in Music from UNCG. Eliot is also an alumni of the Berklee School of Music in Boston where he studied jazz, rock, blues, & bluegrass on guitar, music theory, & ear training. While at Berklee, Eliot worked alongside future Weezer guitarist/vocalist Rivers Cuomo.

After receiving his formal music training, Eliot decided to follow his calling by going to “Music City USA,” Nashville TN. He was recruited to play in local band Valentine Saloon, who had a record contract and was managed by Whitney Houston’s accountant. Playing for 10 years in a dozen different bands was a great experience, but the traveling and lifestyle wasn’t a good fit. Eliot returned to North Carolina to stay close to his family in Raleigh and focus on teaching guitar lessons in Raleigh.

Eliot began offering beginning guitar lessons in Raleigh,  intermediate guitar lessons in Raleigh, and advanced guitar lessons in Raleigh at Harry’s Guitar Shop and was soon involved in the local music scene. He has played at Kings Barcade in their legendary annual Great Cover Up over 15 times and works with a variety of musicians including acclaimed violinist Bryan Rawls of Rawls Violin Studio & Performance. Eliot was also appointed to be Musical Director at Kings Kingdom Ministries where he held the position for 4 1/2 years. While building his clientele teaching guitar, bass, mandolin, ukulele and other instruments with Velvet Aquarium Music Studio, Eliot hopes to continue teaching students of all ages in a relaxed yet artistically stimulating atmosphere.
